August the 26th is a date that every boxing and MMA fan cannot wait for! Two legends in their own right will be stepping into the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada to do battle.Undefeated, five-division world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather will be fighting Conor McGregor, himself a two division MMA world champion. This fight has set the fight world on fire as millions of fans across the globe are contemplating the outcome of this fight. Many have dismissed it as a comedy sketch of boxing, similar to Boxer Ken Clean-Air System vs schoolgirl Petula Wilcox in the Monthy Python series. For others, and mostly the die-hard Mcgregor fans, they see this as a golden opportunity for McGregor to take a fight to a boxer, some regard as a man who hand picked his fights in order to preserve his unblemished record and status.

But what will the reality of this fight be? Let’s be honest, boxing and MMA have very little in common. Boxing is all about movement, staying on your feet and landing accurate and punishing blows. Whereas, MMA is mainly about submitting your opponent to the ground in order to exercise their honed skills in Jujitsu, Grappling, and many other martial arts. The two sports really just don’t mix in fairness. A man who has trained all his life to hit and not get hit, against a man who is happy to get smashed up in order to get his opponent onto the canvas. McGregor does favour fighting on his feet rather than head to the canvas, but then again, he has never fought a man with Mayweather's boxing skills.

Both fighters are fighting at the 154 pound (69.8kg) weight, a weight that will most likely suit McGregor more as he has fought at 170 pounds and is the current 155-pound UFC champion. Mayweather has never fought at this weight, he has fought at 130 pounds and his most recent fights at 145 pounds. Mayweather will not be influenced by the weight class, instead, he will set to work as he did with Andre Berto, a fight in which he landed over 56% of his punches, as well as 67% of his power punches! McGregor will need to strongly adapt his game plan when he realises just how hard Mayweather will hit and how quickly.

McGregor is not afraid to get hit and will show his courage and strength, but the question has to be asked, has this time the “Notorious” bitten off far more than he can chew?

Comments from the corners -

"it's the only fight that makes sense (for me). When Floyd Mayweather fights, it's history. The only thing I am chasing is my own records. And I mean pay-per-view records. We have to give the people what they want to see. The fans demand that fight; we have to give them what they want to see to make them happy."

McGregor's record at MMA is 21-3 with 18 of his fights finishing in way of knockout. Conor has become the face of the UFC over the last couple of years with his extravagant lifestyle and trash talking everyone and anyone wants a piece of this guy and it’s not a surprise he ranks #24 on the Forbes highest paid athletes this year with $34million in total earnings.

Comments from the corners -

"Watch me take over boxing, trust me on that," McGregor told the media. "Watch me step in and shock the whole damn world. I'm 28, a confident m****r f****r, long, rangy, dangerous with both hands. Believe me, I'm going to step in there and knock out Floyd (Mayweather) and you're all going to eat your words. I am boxing."
